The job

You will spend the autumn building a course, and from January you will teach it. That means writing the scheme of work, the session materials and the assessment briefs for the largest Ofqual-regulated Level 3 qualification in Open Source Intelligence in the country. Then teaching it to working professionals, marking what they submit, and telling them plainly when the evidence does not meet the criteria.

Our learners come from a wide range of backgrounds:

• Corporate investigations and due diligence
• Fraud and financial crime
• Insurance
• Recruitment screening
• Journalism
• Compliance
• Risk
• Law enforcement and security

What they have in common is that open source research has become part of their job and they need to be able to prove they do it properly.

The teaching is the part that matters. Showing people how to tell two individuals with the same name apart before committing to one, how to evidence every claim they make, and when the honest answer is that the research does not support the conclusion. Anyone can demonstrate a tool. We want someone who can teach judgement.

Around that sits the running of the course: enrolment, induction, records, progress, attendance, and chasing the learner who has gone quiet in week four. Your assessment decisions will be sampled by our Internal Quality Assurer, and NOCN will visit the centre. Your records need to hold up when they do. You will also help shape what comes next as the academy grows.

What you need:

• The Level 3 Award in Education and Training, or real progress towards it, plus an assessor qualification (CAVA or AVRA)
• Open source research experience you can teach from and be questioned on, whatever sector you built it in
• Comfort with a start-up
• No course administrator, no shared drive of ready-made materials
• You are the first educator we have hired, and for a while you are the whole teaching function
