Job Description
Your tasks
Key aspects of the job include:
- Procurement, analysis, evaluation and dissemination of operationally relevant real-time information through the evaluation of open-source intelligence (OSINT) in public data (including the internet and social media).
- Use of analysis and evaluation tools or search operators for search engines in the context of obtaining OSINT.
- Emergency requests to social media providers to obtain data stored there about users of accounts (e.g., Facebook Records).
- Comparison of information obtained from publicly accessible sources with findings from official databases
- Provision of the processed information to the respective police departments (operations, investigations, etc.) for preventive or criminal procedural measures/purposes.
- (Preventive) monitoring within social media and freely accessible sources on the internet for operationally relevant information of particular importance and/or public impact, as well as for event situations (e.g. football matches).
- Administration, review and maintenance of the social media accounts of the Hanover Police Directorate, such as Facebook, X and Instagram, at specific times.
- Interaction with users who contact the police's social media accounts when immediate police action is required (e.g., suicide announcement)
- In individual cases, implementation of public searches and missing person appeals on social media (Facebook and X), accompanying press work.
- Advising other police departments on the topics of social media and OSINT investigations, possibly including lecturing activities.
- Continuous monitoring of OSINT developments and initiation of concept optimizations, insofar as this appears necessary for police action, also in cooperation with other relevant police bodies.
Your requirements profile
You can apply if you have successfully completed a degree in communication, media studies or similar fields of study with at least a bachelor's degree or equivalent qualification.
The following are also expected:
- Knowledge of OSINT and social media (especially Facebook, TikTok, X and Instagram)
- Knowledge in the field of community management or the willingness to acquire this knowledge through internal training.
- Basic knowledge in the field of data protection and information security
- Knowledge of the application of standard computer programs MS Word, MS Excel and MS PowerPoint
- Proficiency in spoken and written English corresponding to language levels B1/B2 according to the Common European Framework of Reference.
Furthermore, the following are desirable:
- Knowledge of using monitoring and analysis software such as Facelift
- Safe handling of search operators for search engines (e.g., Google operators)
The advertised position requires authorization to perform duties in a security-sensitive position (control room work) within the framework of preventive personnel sabotage protection. Therefore, prior to the transfer to this post, it is necessary to obtain consent for the employee to undergo a basic security clearance (Ü1) and the consent of their spouse or registered partner to provide their data.

Proceedings
As part of the selection process, a pre-selection is made based on the submitted documents after reviewing the requirements profile.

The regular weekly working hours are 38.5. Work is generally performed in rotating shifts (early, late, and night shifts). The position is suitable for part-time work with a minimum of 20 hours per week.
With regard to work-life balance, individual working time models and flexible arrangements are possible, although shift work and flexible work outside of regular working hours are essential. A willingness to do so is required.
