About the job

Would you like to help find extremists, terrorists and spies online? Are you passionate about using open source sources in your work, and are you motivated to continuously stay up to date on developments within OSINT? Then you might be PET's new OSINT specialist.

If you can answer yes to the above, we can offer you a central role as an OSINT specialist in the Open Source Intelligence (OSINT) Section in PET. In the OSINT section, we work to identify, collect, process and assess information from all available open source sources. We generate products that can be used either directly or in conjunction with other source material, and we work closely with analysts and investigators in supporting our core task - to look after Denmark, the Danish Empire and Danish interests abroad.

Become part of the work of collecting information of operational interest for PET

We offer a position in a dynamic, operational environment with committed and dedicated colleagues, where the tone is informal and the working environment is good and productive.

You will be part of a specialized section with a high level of ambition, and where continuous work is done to improve methods, competencies, tools and processes.

The tasks primarily consist of targeted and systematic identification, monitoring, collection and assessment of information in areas or topics of operational interest to PET. You are expected to be able to communicate the results of your work in writing or orally to the relevant colleagues in both Danish and English. You will typically specialize in the areas of counterterrorism, counterextremism or counterespionage.

As an OSINT specialist in PET, you are also responsible for delivering information directly to PET's operations, and you will also work closely with your closest colleagues in the section and not least with the analysts and investigators whose operations you support. These are alternating tasks, and you must be prepared to handle changing tasks at very short notice and at varying speeds, as the world around us changes. In addition, it is also a priority for us to share knowledge and devote time to immersion in specialized areas in relation to our field of expertise.

Our organization is characterized by great professional pride, analytical capacity, good internal relations and interdisciplinary cooperation as well as development and training of employees.

We also provide a thorough onboarding, so that you can start in your new position with the best possible starting point.

You are adaptable, curious about the darkest corners of the internet and have experience with information search

You must have a police training degree (basic police training), and we assume that you have knowledge of or interest in intelligence activities, and in particular how OSINT can be used in this context. As a person, you must be outgoing and thrive well with an unpredictable everyday life. You are dedicated and thorough, but you also understand the meaning of “good enough” and understand that sometimes you work with short deadlines. As an OSINT specialist in PET, you are expected to possess an ingrained curiosity that makes it irresistible for you to investigate the darkest corners of the internet and at the same time contribute to the further development of one of the most exciting and sought-after intelligence gathering disciplines in existence.

We Also Emphasize That

  • You have experience with and interest in social media platforms, communication apps, websites/forums and/or processing large amounts of data
  • You have experience with information search at a specialist level.
  • You have strong collaboration skills and thrive in teams where we deliver products together for a common purpose.
  • You are good at written communication, and you formulate yourself clearly and precisely in written products.
  • You are fluent in Danish and English, both spoken and written.
  • You won't be intimidated by words like source code, script, bits and bytes
  • You agree to participate in an on-call schedule, which means that you must be on call at regular intervals during weekends and holidays.

In addition, you are expected to be available in connection with planned major events or unannounced incidents. Furthermore, it would be an advantage, but not a requirement, to have language skills in either Arabic, Russian or Mandarin. Together with your application, we ask you to enclose an anonymized and detailed example of an OSINT task that you have previously completed. What were your considerations before, during and after? What was your approach, and which OSINT methods and tools did you use? The answer should be no more than one page.

For a Position as a Consultant, Police, Applicable

We expect that you possess particularly specialized knowledge of OSINT and information search, and have the skills to complete tasks within the same topics. You must be able to work independently to a certain extent and have a desire to contribute to different tasks with a positive mindset.

For a Position as a Special Consultant, Police, Applicable

We expect that you can complete the aforementioned tasks with high decision-making competence and come with highly specialized knowledge that can be brought into play in completing the task. You must have a thorough knowledge of the tasks within OSINT and information retrieval. In addition, you must be methodical and analytically strong, so that you can operate at different strategic levels. At PET, we also place a high value on certain personal competencies. These are competencies that we believe are essential for all PET employees, regardless of professional background. We do this because it is important to us that we find the right match. We are very different, and therefore we can make a difference. It is about who you are and what you contribute. Although our work is characterized by the seriousness of the higher purpose, the tone is informal, and you will experience a unique unity across departments and professional areas. We have a daily routine that never becomes everyday life, and you can have that too.
