Job Description
As a digital specialist, you are at home in the digitized world and a professionally mature team player capable of connecting with various colleagues, departments, and parties (both internal and external). You accurately record information, take initiative, and gather the necessary information through targeted questions. Additionally, you proactively identify opportunities within an investigation to make a difference based on your expertise. You possess excellent organizational skills, are quality-oriented, and can work in a hectic environment. It is important that you have an affinity with internet research, preferably experience in technical OSINT, and knowledge of financial systems, such as blockchain technology.
Your duties include, among others:
- conduct research in open and closed sources and support and train detectives in this;
- conducting network analyses within social media platforms;
- analyzing digital traces from networks and metadata and collecting, combining, and analyzing data from seized digital data carriers;
- processing your findings into clear and structured official reports/weighing documents, so that they are also understandable to non-technicians;
- contribute to determining the direction of the investigations based on your digital expertise;
- Independently stay up to date with the latest developments (in scientific research) regarding internet research and translate these into policy recommendations and implementation.
Investigative work is unpredictable. You are therefore available for on-call and weekend shifts.
Where are you going to work?
The Generic Investigation Department (part of the Regional Criminal Investigation Service of the Zeeland-West-Brabant Unit) is responsible for tackling serious and organized crime and capital offenses (TGOs). The department consists of 6 generic teams, a crypto-analysis team (CAT), Cold Case, legal assistance team, digital platform, financial platform, and the OT-B, totaling 172 FTEs. Flexibility and increasing operational effectiveness are key words within our department. We collaborate with the national unit, but also locally with community police officers, basic teams, districts, and other services such as the FIOD and the Royal Netherlands Marechaussee. Additionally, we work in a results-oriented manner by conducting frequent interventions. You will be working on the digital platform of this department. The digital platform supports the teams in their investigations regarding the digital aspect of these investigations. The platform consists of forensic digital investigators, data analysts, and OSINT specialists.

Who are you?

You act and communicate tactfully, and you can record and present facts clearly and in a structured manner. You identify opportunities and are alert to trends, developments, and relevant case law. Additionally, you have/are:
- higher professional education working and thinking level*, preferably in the ICT field;
- knowledge of various operating systems, Internet & Forensics, open systems, databases, telecommunications and multimedia, and proficiency in working with them;
- well informed about the latest digital developments and the new systems on the market;
- no nine-to-five mentality.
What we offer
The workplace is Breda. There is room for 1 FTE. This is a position for 36 hours per week.
Depending on your background, you will follow a 14-week training course at the Police Academy for specific deployability (36 hours per week), possibly followed by an additional training program required for the position. During this training course(s), you will receive the salary agreed upon with you. Successfully completing the mandatory assessment is a prerequisite for starting the training. During the specialized internal police training, you will be temporarily appointed as a civil servant in training. After completing the training, we will offer you a temporary appointment, subject to a one-year probationary period. Following this probationary period, a permanent appointment will follow as soon as possible. Within the police force, we invest in your future. We offer extensive development opportunities and an attractive package of employment conditions. These include:
- a gross monthly salary of at least € 3,297 and a maximum of € 5,311 (scale 9 Bbp) based on a 36-hour working week;
- an Individual Choice Budget (IKB) consisting of two parts:
- A gross portion of 17.86% of your salary. With this budget, you can customize part of your employment conditions. For example, you could use it to cash out your budget, purchase vacation hours, or fund development activities such as training.
- A net amount of €515.91 per year. You can use this budget, for example, for sustainability goals, union membership fees, and vitality.

The formal position within the police organizational structure is Operational Specialist A. Salary classification depends on knowledge and experience and is assessed during the selection interview.
