What are you going to do?

As an Open Source Intelligence (OSINT) specialist, you will work to strengthen our intelligence position in the areas of Counterterrorism, Extremism, and Radicalization (CTER). This specifically focuses on the themes of jihadism, right-wing terrorism, and counter-institutional extremism. Your added value lies in your understanding of the information needs. You know your way around the internet, the deep web, the dark web, and places online that are less accessible to others. Your knowledge of multiple languages contributes to this. You also have knowledge of digital tools that allow you to approach your work more effectively. You connect information from open and closed (police) sources that align with the information request. You can clearly present your findings in reports or official reports so that they can contribute to the evidence in a criminal investigation or for intelligence purposes. Based on your specialization, you share your knowledge with colleagues and elevate the quality of the team.

The work is unpredictable. You are willing to work evenings and weekends occasionally due to operational needs. This also includes on-call duties.

Where are you going to work?

You will work within the CTER cluster. Intelligence, expertise, and tactics teams work closely together within a single department. Within its remit, the cluster explores developments, phenomena, and threats with the aim of preventing crimes and apprehending and prosecuting suspects. The cluster provides high-quality expertise and knowledge products and conducts often complex tactical investigations and legal assistance requests in the field of terrorism and extremism. Intelligence is the point of contact for CTER-related matters within the CTER domain. Intelligence ensures adequate knowledge and information exchange with national and regional intelligence organizations and with internal and external partners such as the NCTV, Europol, and the FIOD.

Effective January 1, 2024, the National Unit was split into two independent units, each with a specific task. This function is organized within the National Investigation and Intervention Unit (LO). LO is committed both nationally and internationally to combating serious and organized crime, terrorism, foreign interference, and cybercrime. In addition, LO supports the police throughout the Netherlands with special interventions (DSI) and covert operations.

Who are you?

You are creative, proactive, and leverage your existing networks. Besides strong networking and advisory skills, you act and communicate tactfully and can convincingly argue your points of view. Your analytical skills enable you to interpret information flows and transform them into products. You then translate these into actionable perspectives within investigations. In the field of intelligence and OSINT, you are a source of information for colleagues and you know how to inspire them.

You're able to work under pressure in a fast-paced environment. You're expected to be able to adapt quickly to the needs of a research team. You're a strong communicator at various levels and can coach colleagues and guide them in achieving their objectives.

We further ask:
